Layer Wallet is an innovative blockchain wallet meticulously crafted for cryptocurrency investors, providing a secure and exceedingly user-friendly way to manage digital assets. Our ambition is to demystify blockchain technology, making secure crypto transactions accessible to everyone.

We have introduced unique security measures such as storing user assets in an encrypted shadow account, further safeguarded with two-factor authentication and facial recognition. Our user interface is designed to be intuitive and straightforward, ensuring that even individuals new to cryptocurrency can navigate with ease.
My Role
As a Product Designer, I delved deep into understanding user needs, working hand-in-hand with engineers to devise our innovative technical solutions. I was involved in the entire design process, from user interface and user experience design to interaction design, ensuring that our product is not just secure but also a pleasure to use. I believe my most significant contribution lies in exploring and implementing our unique asset protection scheme, a cornerstone feature of Layer Wallet.

User Experience Challenges
The world of blockchain and cryptocurrency wallets is intricate, presenting a steep learning curve for many. Our goal was to design an interface that is intuitive and easy to use, significantly reducing the learning curve for our users.

Security Challenges
Another major challenge was ensuring the security of the wallet and the protection of private keys while maintaining a user-friendly experience.
Private Key Protection
We adopted the MCP solution, splitting the user's private key into two parts—one stored on our server and the other held by the user—providing an additional layer of security.
Shadow Accounts and Encryption
We innovatively transferred the ownership of user assets to an encrypted shadow account, a process we refer to as “Locking.” Users need to complete 2FA verification or facial recognition to unlock, enabling asset transfers and other operations.
Onboarding
When setting up a wallet, users have the flexibility to import an existing wallet using their seed phrase, or they can opt to create a Smart Wallet through Layer. Our process is meticulously guided with illustrative aids to ensure a seamless experience.
Importing an Existing Wallet: Users with a pre-existing wallet are supported through a straightforward process to import their assets using their seed phrase.
Creating a Smart Wallet with Layer: For users looking to start fresh, we offer the option to create a new MCP (Multi-Party Computation) wallet, which we refer to as a Smart Wallet. This process is made intuitive and user-friendly, with engaging illustrations and step-by-step guidance, translating the technical complexities of MCP into a straightforward user interface.
Shadow Account
Leverage the power of our innovative Shadow Account technology to add an additional layer of protection to your assets. Engage with a user interface that intuitively translates complex technical processes into simple, user-friendly actions.
Locking Assets for Enhanced Security: Users can easily secure their assets using the Shadow Account feature, effectively "Lock" them away for an added measure of safety. This process is visually represented in the user interface, making the concept of a Shadow Account tangible and easy to understand.
Unlocking with Robust Authentication: To access and manage locked assets, users are required to authenticate themselves using two-factor authentication (2FA). The user interface guides them through this process, ensuring that the correct 2FA code is entered to securely "Unlock" their assets.

Pioneering Asset Protection: In traditional wallets, the loss of a private key equates to the irreversible loss of assets, with the non-changeable nature of private keys adding an additional layer of risk. Layer Wallet mitigates these risks by introducing an innovative locking mechanism for assets.
Securing Assets Beyond the Private Key: With Layer Wallet, even if a private key is compromised, locked assets remain secure and inaccessible without the correct 2FA code. This groundbreaking approach ensures that control over assets is maintained, providing an unparalleled level of security.
User-Friendly Security: We’ve translated the technical complexities of blockchain security into a user-friendly interface, making 2FA an intuitive part of the user experience. Users can effortlessly enhance the security of their assets, enjoying peace of mind knowing that their investments are protected with the latest in security innovation.

Browser Extension: Secure and Seamless
Compatible across various browsers and built to enhance user interactions with decentralized platforms, Layer Wallet ensures a seamless, secure, and swift experience for both seasoned enthusiasts and blockchain newcomers.
Convenient Desktop Integration: Layer Wallet’s browser extension, built on the Chrome engine, brings flexibility and ease to managing crypto assets on desktop. It’s compatible with a variety of browsers including Chrome, Brave, and Opera, ensuring accessibility regardless of user preference. This integration offers a stable and familiar interface for users who prefer desktop management, all within a user-friendly environment.
Streamlined Interaction with Websites: The extension enables secure, direct interactions between Layer Wallet and various decentralized platforms. Users can connect their wallet, initiate transactions, and interact with services directly in their browser, streamlining the process for efficiency and an enhanced user experience.

Translating User Needs: I translated user needs into design elements, ensuring a balance between security and user-friendliness through methods like User Research, Persona Creation, Use Case Analysis, Feature Prioritization, Interaction Design, Visual Clarity, and Accessibility.
